Optimize Item Locations In a Warehouse Using OptQuest In FlexSim

Hi

The whole objective is to get the optimized locations of items in a warehouse, which will minimize the picking time and cost. Is it doable with Opquest? Or Do I need to create a custom optimization algorithm using C++ or any other language and use the optimized data to validate the results?

Regards,

Arun KR

You need parameters, which express the aim of your analyzes. It isn’t advisable to suggest a minimum of travel time or a maximum of idle state time. You need parameters which takes into account the frequency of product class throughputs and / or stay time in relation to time of transport. And you must always check if you create a bottleneck somewhere in your system.

Additionally there are strategies which involve different locations of load and unload points for ASRS vehicles in aisles of a storage system. Different location optimizations aren’t easy to implement in a model, if you want to control them by number values.

But if you find suitable parameters, Optquest will evaluate several scenarios automatically for you.
