Set the capacity of a cart depending on height

Hi all!

[Flexsim 18.1.1]

Am using a combiner to combine a cart and two types of items of different sizes (packing). I want to set the capacity of the cart to 3 metters height ie : i continu to pack items as long as the height (in z axes) of the items is under or equal to 3m.

Do you have any idea on how to do so ?

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Cyrine S

What happens to the items in the combiner if the two items total more than 3 meters? Which item takes priority? Do you want it to continue to pack until it reaches 3 meters?

The easiest way to do this would be to assign a label to all of the items in process flow, and then use a decide to see if the total height is less than 3M.

Could you please upload your model so we could help you better?

Hi Cyrine,

In the attached sample model 2019-06-04-combine-up-to-max-height.fsm, there are items of 0.25 and 0.5 meters high, and they are combined inside a tote up to a maximum height of 3 meters.

Note that I took some assumptions to simplify this example:

  • stack: 1 item per level
  • it's possible to reach exactly the maximum height with an integer quantity of items

Hope this helps.
