why conveyor behave like this?

as following pic. shown, is it possible to minimize the length to ZERO? thank you.

I am sure there is a better way to do this, but since I am not the best at conveyors I have this workaround for you in the meantime. Check out the triggers on the photo eyes and let me know if you have any questions.

Although I'm not sure how a conveyor without any width would be functional, you can achieve this by opening the Conveyor Type properties and setting the Width property to 0 as shown in the image.
