What's the limitation of Emulation module

Hello,

I am wondering how large of model size will be the limit of Emulation module. Such as...

How many I/O tags could be acceptable amount for simulation?

How many PLCs connected may cause latency issue?

Is it possible to emulate a warehouse with thousands sensors?

Does Emulation module have other points need to be concerned about?

Just a quick answer before we have more information - this is a complicated question and will be affected by:

  • communication protocol (modbus. OPC-DA, OPC-UA)
  • nework topology/ route/ speed
  • number of tags/variables
  • volume of traffic
  • type of OPC server (hardware/PC)

But for a rough idea of the speed and volume : 1000 variables over OPC-UA initializing at once at the start of the run - including establishing the connection over the internet to a PC based OPC server in the same country - can take 110 seconds. On your company's intranet it should be quicker than that.

With a direct cable and hardware-based OPC server, 400 variables are initialized in a fraction of a second.
