Flexsim does not run in Remote desktop access

1629938642288.pngThe error message is shown in the above figure. Note this only occurs when I remotely access the desktop and launch Flexsim there. There is no issue when I launch Flexsim on the desktop locally. The interesting thing is that if there is already one Flexsim opened, I can use that one but if I try to start a new project in that interface every 3D object is shown blank. If I try to launch Flexsim from start, Flexsim will not start and the error above pops out.

I have seen comments in some earlier posts which discussed this issue.The NVIDDIA driver option as suggested in one post did not work from my trial.

Thanks for all the help. The problem is fixed.

Just for information of those who have similar problems, I am using Flexsim version 21.0.8 with an educational license. I am using Microsoft Remote Control to access my desktop where Flexsim is installed and licensed. I was not able to launch the software in MRC after the software installation but after 3 updates at various times, the software works fine now.

Is it enabled on your license?

Hi @Wenxu L2,

It may be helpful to update FlexSim to the most recent bugfix for your license (21.0.8). I hope this helps!

What software are you using on your Mac to connect to your desktop PC?

Microsoft Remote Desktop? TeamViewer? RemotePC? AnyDesk?

What step is FlexSim crashing on? What does it say in the bottom-left corner of the splash screen when that error message appears?

FlexSim is a graphics hardware-accelerated OpenGL application. Remote desktop connections have notoriously bad graphics acceleration drivers that often require a fair amount of configuration to get working properly. Unless the "other software" you are accessing is also a 3D OpenGL application, you are comparing apples to oranges.

@Wenxu L2 ,

=== LICENSE CONSIDERATIONS ===

Jason is right that remote access has to be enabled on your license in order for a remote FlexSim session to be licensed. Otherwise, a new instance over remote would start in the limited Express mode.

Being enabled for remote is the default, so it is likely that your license is fine, but if you'd like us to check your specific license, start a new private question to let us know your license code.

=== REMOTE GRAPHICS ===

One reason that all your other software may work over remote, but FlexSim does not, is that FlexSim requires hardware accelerated graphics. These likely are not working over your remote connection. You can check this using the Help > About FlexSim popup, accessed via FlexSim's main menu. When viewing that popup directly on your desktop, it will list your graphics hardware and driver version. If you could view it over remote, it would show Windows Generic or something similar. You describe how if you have a FlexSim instance already open before you start your remote session, you can continue to use FlexSim. I'd be interested to see the Help > About FlexSim info you get over remote in that circumstance.

=== ERROR MESSAGE ===

It is interesting that a FlexSim instance already open works, but starting a new FlexSim instance fails with that error. When FlexSim starts, it does some graphics initialization steps which must be failing for you under a remote scenario. @Phil BoBo may be able to provide some insight as to why the initializing steps would fail for a new instance, but an existing instance is viable.

=== GRAPHICS INFO ===

You mentioned "I have seen comments in some earlier posts which discussed this issue.The NVIDIA driver option as suggested in one post did not work from my trial." I'd like to see what hardware and driver you have on your desktop. This could help us with providing you some additional recommendations. If you could post back a screenshot of the Help > About FlexSim popup when you're logged into your desktop, that could be helpful.

It looks like that the PC to connect to the remote desktop has a something problem.

Would you try to install FlexSim express edition in the PC to have the error? If the result of it will be good, the network connection will have a problem.

Thanks, I am using a Mac to connect to the desktop in my office. I cannot install Flexsim on the Mac. BTW, I have been using remote access to work from home for some time already. I have not experienced any inconvenience with accessing any other software installed on the desktop remotely or disruption of the internet.

If you used MAC at home to connect remotely to the desktop flexsim license PC normally, why can you use as same condition using MAC in any place?

If you connected remotely to the desktop FlexSim PC using windows notebook, I think it was good.

I experienced MAC could not allow FlexSim installation though using 'Parallel virtual machine'.

I hope anyone with experienced MAC will help you about your issue.

Thanks, see responses.

No, I cannot use Flexsim normally at home or any other place through remote access. I have tried to bring my laptop to my office. It does not work. The internet network does not matter.

In addition, I am using REMOTE DESKTOP CONTROL, not the desktop Flexsim license as I do NOT have Flexsim installed on my laptop. If I go to my office and run Flexsim on my desktop, it is ok. It does not work when I remotely access it.

If you connected remotely to the desktop FlexSim PC using windows notebook, I think it was good.

Never tried this. I do not have a windows laptop at this moment.

I am not allowed to use the Flexsim license on my laptop. I have to remotely access the software. The virtual machine option is not viable for me.

I hope anyone with experienced MAC will help you about your issue.

It does not seem to me this is a MAC issue. I have no problem in accessing other software through remote access.
