Experimenter cannot start model run

This is the first time for me to use Experimenter. I just did one scenario where the value of a global variable value is set (I was planning to create multiple scenarios to use different values for this global variable). However the Run Experiment doesn't seem to start the model run at all. The progress bar is displayed as red straight away. Note that the model can run successfully without using Experimenter.

There was a dialog open when I first time click the Run Experiment. I remember it was about Firewall setting. Unfortunately I closed the dialog as I thought it was not related to Flexsim. Now it doesn't display the dialog any more.

Does Experimenter need special Windows settings or License?

Could you please also add your model?

After a few days hard work, my colleague has identified the problem. It is the property on a statistic collector "store data on hard drive" that prevents multiple instances of the model from running (and by extension preventing the experimenter). Is this a known issue to any one?

You can ignore the Windows dialog about the Firewall settings. Whether you accept, deny, or close that dialog, the experimenter works fine. It pops up because of a Windows API query that FlexSim is making, but the query returns the correct result regardless of what the user selects in that dialog box.

If you have a FlexSim license, then the experimenter should work fine. If it isn't, then you should send us your model so we can debug why it isn't working correctly. If your model is confidential, you can post it in a private question.

@phil.bobo, thank you so much for the reply. What you said is correct. I ran the Experimenter using another model and it runs fine. It seems the problem is this particular model. Unfortunately the mode is highly confidential and sensitive, so I can't send it now. I was wondering if there is any debugging tool or log in FlexSim that I can use to find out the reason why this model can't run in Experimenter? By the way, I can run the model using command line and it works fine.

One thing you can try is using the same settings as the experimenter. First, on the Scenarios tab of the Experimeter, use the Reset Scenario dropdown to pick a scenario you want to test. When you reset your model, it should apply the settings in the experimenter. This allows you to double check that the variables are being applied correctly.

Next, you can run your model through different replications manually. On the Advanced tab of the experimenter, you can choose which replication to run using the Repeat Streams of Replication field. To run replication 2, set that field to 2. Try replications 1 to 5, and see if issues appear in any replication.

Between these two features, you can run any scenario and replication manually, and check for issues.

Thanks for the advice @jordan.johnson! Unfortunately the Experimenter simply doesn't run at all. We know now the issue is related to the statistics collectors.

We have found out our statistics collectors causing the problem. Once all of them are deleted, the Experimenter can run.

If that is the case, please post the model with the statistics collectors, or email it to [email protected], so we can fix the issues. Models emailed to [email protected] are kept confidential.

Hi Jordan, the model we are working on is highly confidential so I can't share it. But the good the news is that my colleague has identified the problem. It is the property on a statistic collector "store data on hard drive" that prevents multiple instances of the model from running (and by extension preventing the experimenter). Is this a known issue?
