To copy a variable to selected objects I normally click on one of them and change the variable in the properties contextual menu. Sometimes it works fine and shows a small message indicating the amount of objects modified. Sometimes it does not work...
This should work every time. If there is a certain property you've found that doesn't copy correctly let us know and we'll look into it. Or if you can give us a list of steps that shows the issue you're seeing we'll also be able to investigate and fix it.
