Initial value for Storage Slot Label Painter

Hi,

This is not a bug, but something I have always found to be weird.

When you click on the Paint Slot Labels tool:

The default value in the Value field is 3:

Why 3 was chosen as the default initial value in this property field ?

A default initial value of 1 would make more sense.

I don’t think, that one is better than three, because if you see number three you have to figure out, why this value was chosen. It is harder to understand that you have to edit the value first to get later painted slots for this value if you start with a value of one and there aren’t any other values in a picklist available.

If for example we apply this way of thinking to other parameters like the start bay / level / slot:

The default value should be 3, "because if you see number three you have to figure out, why this value was chosen".

That does not make sense to me.

The default value for the slot painting label is arbitrary. Why would a 1 make more sense than a 3?

You can paint any value you want. You don't have to start with 1. A label could be any value, and you should enter the value you want to use in that field.

In the Address Mapping, 99% of the time, you don't even want to change the default value. You want it to be 1. That's why it defaults to 1.

That argument doesn't make sense for painting a slot label's value. A label could be anything. When using the Slot Label Painter, you should change that value from its default value to whatever value you want to paint. Thus, its starting value is irrelevant, and apparently by having a default value that isn't 1, it implies that you should change it, as Joerg pointed out. This is by design, as Jeanette said.

Hello @Clair A,

This is by design like Joerg has explained.
