Processing Cutoff Time

To avoid a procedure starting too late each day in a FlexSim for Healthcare simulation, I have a shift schedule that makes a room unavailable. However, I would also like to require that if a patient arrives prior to a specific time each day that they have a specific group of activities completed. For example, if there is an arrival before noon, the procedure would occur for that patient, however, if they would have arrived at 12:01, the procedure would occur the following day.

Would a decision point be the best way to regulate the goal? If so, is there a way to "force" the procedure to occur and keep staff necessary later in the day? Finally, if the group of activities is running too late in the day, how would you return the patient to a holding area and then begin the next step in the activity group that day so they aren't held overnight in a procedure room?

The easiest way to do this is to use Decision Points as you suggested. In the decision point you can look at the current time and then have two different sets of activities for the before and afternoon scenarios.

If you want to keep staff around past the time they're supposed to go home you'll have to adjust the priority of activities and make sure that you keep staff across activities. If, however, you want the staff to stay for an activity that isn't even going to start until after they're supposed to go home, that's going to be much harder.

It's not very easy to stop an activity part way through. You should probably calculate ahead of time how much time the procedure is going to take and compare that to how much time is left in the day. If there's enough time start the activity, otherwise move to the holding area.
