How can I add objects to a plane for model management after the fact? (after I have made my model)

You can use the Edit Selected Objects tool:
Shift select the object(s) you want to move (so it highlights red) and then click once (so it highlights yellow) on the container object you want to move the first object(s) into. Then click the Move into Highlighted button:
You can also use this to move the selected object back into the model if you don't have any other object highlighted.
