Full/educational/free versions

Are there different versions of the software? And, if so, what is the difference among them? I am an university teacher trying to determine if FlexSim is the appropriate software for my students to learn.

I think you will get an apropriate answer by a distributor or by the developer. In short:

The free or express License limits the objects you can build a model. Some nice features aren't available like the random behavior of statistical distributions, tools to test a source code or to edit several objects simultaneously and you can't see the model structure as a node tree. The tree contains all attributes that you can change in your model and it is a source to identify how the model behave.

The educational License contains the same features of the full License. The user will see an Information in the FlexSim program window that it is an educational Version. You see the Version text slightly in the model 3D view window, too.

The commercial or full License hasn't any limits or show any informations what license type it is.

There are additional license types like a student license. The object limit allows more objects. There are timed licenses for a short period of use, Runtime licenses to execute only one model.

Each of those license types install the same program. Only the inserted license key defines how the software behaves.

You find additional modules developed by distributors that you can buy. Or you can get special versions like FlexSim Health Care or the Container Terminal Simulation. They aren't part of the Full license. The modules enhance the main program by an ergonomic module, mass people flow and other specialized features. The special Versions are sold separately. I think, the Container Terminal Simulation FlexTerm isn't distributed by FlexSim anymore and it is owned by Moffat & Nichol.
