Graphics Vega 8, will it work for Flexsim?

I’m planning to buy a new laptop and since I use this program often I want to make sure it will work on it before I make the purchase. Within my budget I found the Asus X505ZA which has Vega 8 graphics. I would like to know if this is enough to run the program.

Fernanda,

I would strongly recommend something higher performance. On the benchmark list of this website

https://dev1.notebook-check.com/index.php?id=844

You find the Vega 8 at position 257, just below Geforce 940M. FlexSim will work for as long as you do not use high complexity 3D shapes or many of them in a single model. You will definitely have to say good bye to the use of VR though, if that was on your wish list.

What about the Nvidia Geforce Mx130? I don't see it in the list you posted. Will it work properly?

"Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060" is the recommended spec if you want to do serious modeling (see the recommended section here).

On this benchmark site you case see where the Mx130 compares to the GTX 1060:

https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+MX130&id=3890

It looks pretty weak in comparison, at about 20% the performance of the 1060, and the Vega 8 is even worse.

Both meet FlexSim's minimums, but are far from the recommended specs.

Hi @Fernanda Q,

According to this website, the MX130 is a renamed Geforce 940MX, which ranks it at the bottom of the mid-range graphics cards according to Ralf's link.

The performance would be similar to the Geforce 940M mentioned by Ralf; you wouldn't have a problem using FlexSim, but if you ever got to the point that you wanted to try VR with FlexSim or import your own 3D shapes, you might run into performance issues. Does that help?

Hi @Fernanda Q,

FlexSim doesn't have a detailed list of graphics cards and their compatibility, but generally, the faster and more powerful the hardware on the computer, the faster and more aesthetic FlexSim models will run on the computer. Click here for a more detailed explanation of recommended system requirements that might help you find out where the Vega 8 graphics stand.

If you already have access to a Vega 8, you might consider trying to run FlexSim on it and test it out. We do recommend the NVIDIA GTX if your budget allows for obtaining it.
