I think the colored center cross mark in the grid and item grid screen will be helpful when making the model.
After rotating the grid operation screen to the left or right when making a model,
some confusion happens in the direction.
How about the black cross mark changing the red - green colored mark in the grid?
If you change to an orthographic projection instead of a perspective projection, then the 3D view draws an axis indicator in the corner of the screen:
