model crashes while running and then never opens

I am not able to figure out the problem. its kind of weird. this is happening from 3 days. I open a old runing model. Make changes and I save multiple times. Then I run it for the entire simulation run which takes 40 mins and it crashes automatically. Then I tried to open the model, it opens and as soon as I reset it crashes again. Then i open the previous version which was running and that also crashes. I can understand if something is wrong in the current model, but why my old model which was running just fine is crashing. I cannot send you the model here but please help.

Hi @sachin T3,

It's hard to know how to help without looking at your model. To receive a more accurate solution, please post your model or a sample model that demonstrates your question.

Proprietary models can be posted as a private question visible only to FlexSim U.S. support staff. You can also contact your local FlexSim distributor for phone or email help.

You definitely have a strange issue. What does it take to reset the situation so that your old models work normally again. Does rebooting your computer get you back to the initial state?

Do your models access external data sources, such as via Excel, database connector, sockets, etc.? Do they do anything that or connect to anything that might persist beyond a FlexSim instance?

I hope I fixed the model.

1. There were some statistic collectors which were generating lot of exception but wasn't affecting model. And that's why my system console was huge. I never deleted the system console. So I am cleaning it on reset now.

2. The charts are creating problem, because it generates huge amount of data and there are many charts. Every time i open the dashboard the software hang and then i have to restart. So removed those graphs from dashboard.

3. there were some previous version Process flows which were not in use but I kept them in model for reference to track changes. Removed them as well.

The model was 20MB and after doing all the above changes the model is 2MB. nothing changed in the model logic, I just removed the garbage.

I still don't know what was the issue, but it seems now its stable.

Thank you for answering.

Since you can't share your model, and likely building a small sample model would not repeat the issue, you will need to debug this issue on your own.

I suggest starting by reviewing our article How can I debug a crashing FlexSim model? The first two points in particular will be important:

1. make sure you don't have any exceptions or errors printing to FlexSim's various consoles. These indicate there is something wrong that needs to be fixed. If you get any of these at any point in the model run, it should be debugged and fixed.

2. make the model repeatable. In order to find and fix modeling errors, it is much easier if your model runs exactly the same every time (with repeat random streams enabled).

As you fix one exception, another might crop up at a later time. Keep fixing errors and upgrading your model to be repeatable until you can run error free and completely repeatable up to the crash point, then continue debugging the crash according to the guidance in the linked article.

Once you've done everything described in the article, if you're still having trouble figuring it out you might also consider scheduling a phone or online support session with one of our reps. Being able to send your model in for support makes it much easier for us to track down, but an online meeting might be all you're allowed to do.
