Installation Errors

We get a DLL error when installing version 7.7.4 on a Windows XP system. FlexSim does not install successfully:

The first error occurs when your system is missing the xinput9_1_0.dll file used by FlexSim, which is part of Microsoft's DirectX. This file is normally included in your Windows installation, but for server operating systems and older OSs (like Windows XP), DirectX may not be installed.

The easiest fix is to install the latest version of Microsoft DirectX. Chances are, upgrading to the latest version of DirectX will fix the xinput9_1_0.dll not found error.

A future version of FlexSim will probably include this DLL directly, in order to avoid such errors and allow for a more worry-free FlexSim installation. UPDATE: The xinput DLL is now included in 16.1.0.

For the other error, without knowing the translation of the rest of the text, I simply searched online for "GetNamedPipeClientProcessId" and found this stack overflow article.

The article indicates that the function in question is not supported by Windows XP.

That highlights the most important point, which is that as of FlexSim 7.7, FlexSim's minimum system requirements are Windows Vista and newer (https://www.flexsim.com/flexsim/#systemreqs). Windows XP is no longer a platform we support. Also, Microsoft Mainstream support for Windows XP ended on April 14, 2009, and Extended support ended on April 8, 2014.

If you must use FlexSim on an out-of-date operating system, you will need to revert to an older FlexSim version that worked on that OS. However, we absolutely do not recommend using unsupported operating systems or software versions. The best solution is always to use the latest version of FlexSim on a system that meets FlexSim's minimum system requirements.

On Windows XP we installed DirectX version 11 before installing FlexSim. This solves the xinput error, however we still get the "GetNamedPipeClientProcessId" error message.

We can confirm that FlexSim 7.7.4 does not work properly with a Windows XP system .

We have replied to client that XP will only work with versions older than 7.5.4. Most of the clients these days use Windows 7 or newer systems, so the problem is solved .
