laptop specification for Oculus Rift

@phil.bobo

Hi Phil, what is the laptop specification that is needed to use the VR capability in FlexSim with Oculus Rift? Thanks for your advise.

Is G Sync is must?

Thanks

David

David,

these are the official specs to run Oculus Rift on a PC:

"For the full Rift experience, we recommend the following system:

Video Card NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater

CPU Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater

Memory 8GB+ RAM

Video Output Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output

USB Ports 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port

OS Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer"

This basically disqualifies all GTX 9xx M cards, since the mobile cards only have about 70% of the performance of desktop cards. The new 1060/1070/1080 series should work fine. We ourselves have an Aorus Laptop X5 with two GTX 970 M in SLI mode. This runs the rift well enough to demo it, but will be too weak for long time use, especially on bigger models.

To explain: FlexSim does not make use of SLI, but an SLI machine was the only safe indicator, that the machine is not using NVidia Optimus. VR does not work with any NVidia Optimus machine, don't try.

Same with G-Sync: G-Sync machines do not have NVidia Optimus, so will technically work.

I am personally looking for the new Aorus X3 to be released November 1st, since I like light weight laptops.

Any further questions?
