Average Length of stay

Hi,

Do you know how FlexSim does calculate LOS for patients ? I have almost no differences between model’s average length of stay and real average length of stay for inpatients. However I do get huge differences for SDS patients between model’s average length of stay and real average length of stay. SDS means same day surgeries patients, in my model, these patients arrive and wait in waiting room and go directly to OR after a few minutes, and then go in post-care unit.

(Inpatients stay in pre-op unit then go in OR and then post-op unit.)

The Length of Stay is just the time the patient leaves the model minus the time when the patient entered the model. If the LOS is not what you expect you should look at why the patients are staying in the model longer (or shorter?) than you expect and what is holding them up.

Great, thank you for these information. The differences came actually from outliers in the normal distribution used for LOS. These outliers contributed to raise the average LOS in FlexSim.
