First and recommended approach is A*Star. Second and only rudimentary advanced are table mapped system and block rack system.

If you will use A* for KIVA system, AStar module itself is enough not need optimize, I think. What is your 'optimizing' in AStar? The number of AGV? or What? FlexSim AStar is D-Star called. D-Star is 'dynamic star'. I think FlexSim Astar module can solve almost KIVA robotic system.

Maybe you look for the keyword "KIVA" here at answers. There are some answers, how to start. You need often edit in the A* Navigator object properties the attribute "Node Spacing". You find this Attribute for newer Versions in Quick Properties for the Grid object.

Optimizing the A*Star algorithm is only indirectly possible by forcing the AGVs to do a offset travel to special locations. Or you implement a collision strategy how and which vehicle avoids a collision.
