What should I do?
What should I do?
Hi @Vinayak N2,
Could you please post a screenshot from 20.0 so that we know what it should look like?
Also, screenshots of the info in the top right of the start page would give us more information on version numbers, graphics drivers, etc, that could be useful in troubleshooting. If you could provide a screenshot like this from both versions that could be very useful:
Thanks for your reply @Ben Wilson! I have attached the versions and what the image looks like in both below:
2020 version:
2021 version:
I was able to load a texture onto a plane in 21.0.4. Seems to work fine:
@Phil BoBo, do his screenshots tell you anything? Could the problem be lighting-related?
@Vinayak N2, can you tell us more about what is going on? Do you save the model in 20.1.2, then open it in 21.0.0, then after the upgrade the model shows this problem? If you started from scratch in 21.0.0 (as I did in my test above) does it work? Or are you doing the same steps from a new model in both versions, and the results differ as shown?
Can you attach a sample 21.0.0 model that shows the problem for us to examine?
Has anyone already made the joke about FlexSim 2020 vision not being blurry?
@Ben Wilson I can't tell what is happening from the screenshots. Seems more like a texture load issue than a lighting issue. FlexSim 20.2 has some significant changes from 20.1 with the multi-threaded media changes and multi-platform changes. It is quite possible that something in those updates works correctly on native Windows, but isn't working correctly in this virtualized Parallels environment.
@Vinayak N2 You should verify that the difference isn't just a graphics configuration issue. Global preferences aren't shared between FlexSim versions. Check to make sure all the settings are the same in File > Global Preferences > Graphics in both FlexSim versions. Parallels' OpenGL support is spotty at best. Some more details about what is working properly vs what isn't between the versions could be helpful. Is it just Model Background textures? Do other textures in other 3D shapes work fine? Do textures on visual tools work?
Hi @Phil BoBo,
-I ensured that the global preferences are the same in both versions.
-Everything seems to work well in 2021 version except the background.
-Other textures work. The issue is only with importing new textures/images.
Hi @Ben Wilson, I actually started from scratch in 21.0.0 and it doesn't work. The screenshots are from models with the same working steps in different versions. I have attached a model for your reference.
test_background.fsm
Also, I tried the 'changing texture on a plane' method and that gives the same results.
This loaded fine into 21.0.4 so is likely to be a hardware/PC issue.
Are your bit levels the same for version 20 and 21 or is v20 32-bit?
@jason.lightfoot, @Vinayak N2,
The FlexSim 20.1.2 is 64-bit, as shown in Vinayak's start page images included for both versions in a comment above.
@Vinayak N2 This appears to be an issue on our end. We'll attempt to replicate and debug the issue on a similar system and let you know what we figure out.
In the meantime, if regular 3D shapes and their textures are coming in properly, you could create a plane with the desired texture in a 3D modeling program and import it as a 3D shape.
I was able to replicate the issue and resolve it.
In FlexSim 20.2, we upgraded our media loading to be multi-threaded. The multi-threaded texture loading was not handling UNC paths correctly. In Parallels, the Documents directory is shared between Windows and OS X by default using a UNC path like "\\Mac\Home\Documents\FlexSim 2021 Projects\".
I've fixed the texture load code so that it correctly handles UNC paths for the next bugfix releases of FlexSim 21.0 and 21.1.
Thanks Phil. Looking forward to the bugfix release. Do you know when can we expect it?
I had the same issue. When importing an image from a sharepoint/workdoc folder, it seemed to show me the blurry/black image. When i imported the same image from my desktop, it worked fine. It has nothing to do with the graphics honestly. Some bug in the Flexsim import system. ! Wasted half a day in figuring this out!
What version of FlexSim are you using? If you're using 21.0 or 21.1, be sure to upgrade to the latest bugfix which should have the update mentioned by Phil.
If you're using anything older than version 21.0 you'll need to upgrade.
