How do I create a model for the staffing ratio in FlexSim HC?

Hello,

I am trying to create a model for a nursing unit with staffing ratio criteria. For example, one RN can only assign to maximum of 6 patients at a time. If there are 2 RNs, only 12 patients can be placed in the unit. If the 13th patient arrives, the patient will wait until one of the patient is discharged and staffing ratio of one RN drop to 5:1. At that time, this new patient will be placed in this unit. Can you please recommend?

Thank you for your model. This is very useful. We definitely can use this for our model. However, there is one enhancement required. We want to look at the optimal staffing level too. We want to make sure we have a good nursing productivity. Therefore, we want to use the model to determine number of nurses we need to scheduled to work. Can we revise your sample model to assign a new patient to the existing nurses to maximize their workload (without going over the maximum workload)? The goal is to use as minimum number of nurses as possible. A new nurse should not be used unless the new patient will bring the existing nurse workload over the maximum.

I would think you could obtain the information you seek by simply experimenting with the number of active nurses in your nurse group. The number of "Active Members" in a resource group can be manipulated manually in the Quick Properties pane for the group, or by using an experiment variable in the Experimenter.
