Search in user manual doesn´t work!?

It seems as if the search function in the user manual doesn´t work acutally!?

I can navigate in the tree on the left side. But doesn´t get any results if I type anything in and press enter or the button in front of the search field!

Does anybody have any idea what is wrong?

I also notice that the search is not working recently, and it often seems inoperative. Have tried in both Chrome and Edge. I was trying to look up the chapter on "robot" for example. Is there a way I can use the same User Manual, but embedded within FlexSim, like it was in the earlier versions?

Note that a workaround, is to double-click on the robot object, then click on the green "?" ball at the upper right, which then brings the Robot manual text up directly in my browser.

The hitch though, is that I am using 2020.2 and it brings up the documentation for 2021.1 (https://docs.flexsim.com/en/21.1/Reference/3DObjects/TaskExecuters/Robot/Robot.html). If I switch the "Version:" pulldown from 2021.1 to 2020.2, the Robot documentation disappears and the manual defaults back to the Welcome screen for 2020.2 version. It should instead go get the the 2020.2 version of the Robot documentation, instead of defaulting to 2020.2 Welcome. There appears to be no way to tell FlexSim 2020.2 to automatically go get 2020.2 documentation when I click on a green "?" ball - it goes straight to the most recent version of the doc, which doesn't always match the version I'm on.

I don't think there's much in the way of changes in Robots between 2020.2 and 2021.1, so it's probably not an issue that I'm not getting the 2020.2 version-specific web doc on robots. However, there are big changes in things like Experimenter and OptQuest, so having 2021.1 documentation pop-up from within the 2020.2 version is confusing. I had to re-navigate the left pane to dig up the same info in the 2020.2 version (since the search is not working).

If these items have been addressed in the 2021.1 version, that's OK, since I will be there at some point (project coordination dictates we stick with 2020.2 for a bit yet). Thank you.

Hi @Mike Mayer,

Sorry the user manual search service is down again. I thought we had that sorted, but obviously there is still an issue. We should get that up again shortly.

If you want a version of the User Manual installed on your computer, it now has a standalone installer separate from the FlexSim installer:

You can use the "More Versions" button to get the User Manual installer for older versions.

I'll submit your suggestions to the appropriate teams:

  • The ? button in the software, when opening the online user manual, should open the manual version matching the software version.
  • the online manual, when changing between versions, should attempt to keep you in the same page (or same topic, if exact page didn't exist in the version you're changing to).

Thanks @sebastian.hemmann,

We'll need to restart the search service. I'll comment back when it's done.

I have found that the search works in Chrome but not in my (older) version of Edge.

We haven't been testing in Edge Legacy. Microsoft hasn't been improving the browser since the new Chromium-based Edge was released, and now Microsoft has confirmed that Edge Legacy will stop receiving security updates on March 9, 2021. For the best compatibility and security we recommend upgrading to the latest version of a modern, maintained browser.

We test our sites in the latest versions of the following mainstream browsers:

Other Chromium-based browsers, such as Opera, Brave, and more, should work largely similarly to Edge or Chrome.

We also do not test on Internet Explorer 11, which is an old, outdated browser that shouldn't be used for general web browsing. Though IE11 hasn't received new features in years (and years), Microsoft is still issuing security updates, but even Microsoft's own Teams doesn't support IE11, and Office 365 support ends in August.
