A space called "Ideas for Development" or something of that nature so that users can post their ideas there and get votes, comments, and feedback. Without the space ideas like that will either clutter up other spaces or just not be posted.

What if the space was just "development"? Then if @phil.bobo makes an announcement about a new beta release, etc., it could be added as an article in the "development" space.
Just so the space isn't limited to ideas, but could include articles and questions, as long as the topic pertains to development, rather than to Help or General Discussion.
How about making it a sub-space in development. That way they are kept apart from release announcements, updates, news, etc.
I think that is what the different post types would accomplish. An article is a general announcement, a question is a question pertaining to development (does the next release have a scheduled date yet? for example), and an idea is a development idea or request.
Each of these different kind of posts gets a special icon next to it in the Space's list view, so you know what each is.
So, thinking like an economist, it would be nice if people had to use reputation points to up-vote an idea. This would prevent people from just automatically up-voting everything that sounds like a good idea. Rather, it would actually make them say, hey, this feature is so important, I'm willing to spend my hard earned reputation on a vote for it. This would make the number of votes on a feature much more meaningful in my opinion. Obviously such a feature has to be part of the answers platform, but anyway, an idea. @Ben Wilson or @Paul Toone, put it in.
There's already a limit on number of votes per person. There's a Votes Left progress bar on the right that shows that we each get 20 votes.
Yes @anthony.johnson, like @Matthew Gillespie said, you have a limit. Is 20 good or should I make it lower?

This article indicates, under the Configuring Voting heading, that we can control how much reputation you gain or lose when you up and down vote content. So it is something we can tweak if necessary.
I think a dedicated "Known Bug List" would be an excellent idea (which I have asked for about 10 years ago for the first time), if we can somehow make it accessible to (select) distributors and users under current maintenance only.
In general a user is spending a lot of time to experiment with something, before reporting that as a bug. He could save this time by just looking into the know bug list to see, if it has been reported already.
I have two actual users in Germany, who told me they won't spend any time on exploring or reporting bugs unless they have a list of known bugs, which is very understandable to me: Who likes to spend time on doing the same work over and over again?
Ralf
I think that Ben and the Dev team will be bringing this up for discussion soon. You should jump in on that when they do.
Searching through a list of known bugs would take more time than reporting a bug.
I hope this is what you all were hoping for. This idea is now in the Development space.
Great, @Paul Toone!
I noticed that the new space shows up in the Spaces dropdown in the top bar, but it is not listed in the big Spaces widget in the sidebar.
Thanks for pointing that out @Mischa Spelt, it is fixed now.
