The way to control where items flow in the Conveyor system is to "send" items to specific locations. This is normally done at Decision Points. If you don't send an item to a specific location, the item goes to the furthest transfer along the conveyor. In your case, that means items get stuck in the loop.

It shows how to use Decision Points, and how to use the OnArrival trigger of a Decision Point to send the item to a different location. It also contains another example where items are sent to different locations based on their type. Hopefully, that makes a little more sense.
