Is there a way to check all instances where a global variable is used? Especially when a global variable is used in multiple locations across the 3D model and process flow/ other areas it can be tedious to keep track where all a global variable was used.

Besides writing a script to look for all appearances of a string over all nodes in a model, maybe there is still a tool present that was used to document a model.
If you want to give a try to build an own search script, you can start with the command forobjecttreeunder and perhaps you find by this keyword already a script someone else has published.
Just use the "Find" function available in the properties panel of each tree view.
