Flexsim HC 5.0 for healthcare organizations

Hello Everyone

As you know, Flexsim HC 5.0 is the latest version of Flexsim Healthcare software. It has been designed to provide operational excellence in healthcare applications and can help manage patient flow and resources in any healthcare setting.

Flexsim HC 5.0 includes several features that make it a powerful tool for improving operations automation and efficiency. These features include a web-based user interface, an integrated simulation engine, and comprehensive reporting capabilities.

The web-based user interface is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. It contains all the tools needed to manage patient flow and resources in healthcare settings, such as scheduling planners, resource management tools, and a dashboard for monitoring key performance indicators. The integrated simulation engine allows users to see how changes in operations will affect patient flow and resource utilization. This can help inform decisions about staffing, scheduling, and other operational matters.

However, I am a little confused about using this software as a new entrepreneur. Therefore, I am here to ask a few questions:

What are the specific features of Flexsim HC 5.0 that make it useful for healthcare organizations?

Does this software give users the ability to create custom models and simulations?

How can I use Flexsim HC 5.0 to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase patient satisfaction in my organization?

Where can I get coupons and discounts for Flexsim HC 5.0?

Looking forward to your response. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi @syma khan,

FlexSim HC has reached End Of Life. All its functionality is rolled into our main product, FlexSim Simulation Software, currently at version 23.0, with version 23.1 coming in a few weeks.

There are numerous YouTube videos, blog posts, and more where you can discover more about the software. You can also learn more about FlexSim by downloading it and working through the tutorials. After completing the basics tutorial, you could move on to the healthcare tutorial:

A quick update/good news: FlexSim HC is no longer a separate download. If you download FlexSim 2023, you are downloading FlexSim HC. Once inside FlexSim, you can choose to streamline the interface for HC models. This make HC features more obvious. However, you can use any feature of FlexSim in an HC setting.

So to answer your questions:

"What are the specific features of Flexsim HC 5.0 that make it useful for healthcare organizations?"

FlexSim HC takes full advantage of Process Flow, FlexSim's 2D logic modelling environment. It is easy to lay out the logic that defines a patient's journey, from arrival to discharge. HC provides Activity Sets (pre-configured blocks of logic) to really speed up model development. HC also provides 3D shapes for common HC tasks, such as registration desks, waiting rooms, beds, wheelchairs, and many more. Another main feature is that HC provides charts that make it easy to understand the performance of the system.

Here is a link to a YouTube video that walks through an HC tutorial:

"Does this software give users the ability to create custom models and simulations?"

Yes, this is FlexSim HC's core purpose.

"How can I use Flexsim HC 5.0 to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase patient satisfaction in my organization?"

You can try "what if" scenarios, for example what effect does adding more staff have on the system? What about more beds? Or if there is a proposed change, such as a new wing or new building, you can simulate the future state of the system to determine how effective that change would be.

"Where can I get coupons and discounts for Flexsim HC 5.0?"

Talk to your local distributor for pricing information.

I just wanted to elaborate more on Jordan's responses.

  • "What are the specific features of Flexsim HC 5.0 that make it useful for healthcare organizations?"
    • The Healthcare Environment in FlexSim is designed to model all types of healthcare processes. This environment has special objects found in healthcare systems like MRIs, ORs, CTs, etc. These objects can be placed directly onto an imported AutoCAD layout to insure that locations are placed in the correct spots. This is beneficial because the distance between locations can have an affect on the overall patient and staff experiences.
    • The logic in these models is primarily handled using the Process Flow. Process Flow allows users to easily map out what a patient does from the time they enter they facility to the time they exit. It is patient flow is laid out like a flowchart using Activity Sets. As Jordan explained, these are pre-configured blocks of logic, but they are also completely customizable.
    • Additional resource available to build Healthcare systems the Healthcare Environment provides are:
      • Time Tables for Staff and Location Schedules
      • Maintenance on Locations for things like room turn-over and cleaning between patients
      • Groups for categorizing things like staff, locations, equipment, and transports for easier selection
      • Ability to prioritize requests for resource allocation
  • "Does this software give users the ability to create custom models and simulations?"
    • All the things listed above allow a user to create their own simulation of their system because they have control of the layout, visuals, and logic.
  • "How can I use Flexsim HC 5.0 to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase patient satisfaction in my organization?"
    • You can use FlexSim to identify where issues are in the system. This can be done with the help of the dashboards as well as the model visuals.
    • Once you have identified the areas for improvement, you can then run the "what if" scenarios. As Jordan mentioned, one of the benefits is the ability to running "what if" scenarios. These allow you to test out changes to the system before implementation. It then allows you to see if the solutions you have come up with have any adverse affects that you did not initially anticipate.
    • Models can be used in the design phase of a facility to validate proposed designs or even do capacity analysis to determine how many locations are needed within a design.
    • We have also had some clients used models for day to day operations for such as OR scheduling and area staffing.
