Licensing FlexSim through a Firewall

Our current firewall setup will not allow software to connect to the Internet. This creates a problem when trying to upgrade the license for my newly installed version of FlexSim 2016.

I have contacted our local IT department and have been told that if I can give them the direct web address to the license upgrade server, they can have it added to the list of allowed connections and hopefully that will prevent future issues with upgrading our licenses. I looked through the licensing tab in FlexSim but couldn't identify the correct address that the software would be navigating to for the license upgrade.

Please send the address that the software would be trying to navigate to in order to upgrade the license. I'm sure other companies with strict firewalls experience trouble with acquiring licenses when they first have FlexSim installed, so perhaps this will resolve issues for a number of FlexSim users.

The licensing process contacts both of the following server addresses:

This communication currently happens over port 80 using HTTP protocol, and in the future may be over port 443 for HTTPS.

Is it possible to configure a proxy server in flexsim?

We’re using a proxy server to connect to the internet. The proxy server needs the user credentials for the authentication. Is there a way to configure a proxy server in the software or do we have to open the firewall to the locations that were mentioned by @Ben Wilson?

@Carsten Seehafer,

Attached is an older model file (compatible with FlexSim 5.0 and up), that has a Model Control GUI that is an extension to the License Activation window with an extra tab where you can put proxy details and it calls the appropriate function so that the licensing communication uses them.

The dev team will consider adding that proxy tab to the Advanced tab of the current License Activation window.

@Ben Wilson, thanks for your help!

To be exact our IT department uses a proxy server for all internet connections (including all online content in FlexSim). If the dev team adds a proxy tab it would be nice if it would work for all online communication in FlexSim. Thanks!
