License activation: Failure to send request or receive a reponse

Hi,

In the attached screenshot, one student has an error during the activation of his student license:

flxActAppActivationSend - (50018,41145,32)

"Failure to send request or receive a response for an unspecified reason. Recovery: check parameters used for the request."

He tried on several networks, deactivated his firewall, but still gets the same error.

How can we help him to activate his student license ? Manual activation ?

Something is preventing FlexSim software from contacting the license server. It's hard to know exactly what without doing a lot of testing, but here is a general list of some of the common issues that can prevent FlexSim licenses from activating over the internet:

  1. computer is not actually connected to the internet
  2. local firewall on the computer
  3. network firewall maintained by the network owner (like your company, university, or organization)
  4. anti-virus/anti-malware preventing untrusted software (FlexSim) from contacting the internet
  5. connecting to the internet through a proxy
  6. connecting to the internet through a VPN

The User Manual also talks about common licensing errors here.

Sometimes its easier to do manual licensing, especially if you would have to work through IT department bureaucracy to troubleshoot the above list. Manual licensing is a way to activate your FlexSim license via this Q&A community, rather than FlexSim software contacting the internet directly.

The following steps outline the process for a manual activation or return (for FlexSim version 2016):

  1. Go to FlexSim's main menu, Help > License Activation
  2. Go to the Advanced tab
  3. Go to the Manual Activation tab (or Return if this is a manual return)
  4. Paste your Activation ID (or Select the license from the list to return)
  5. Hit the Generate Request button and save the request.xml file
  6. Submit the manual activate/return request XML via a new private question. Don't forget to mark your question as private! Your request.xml contains sensitive license information
  7. We will process the request and post back a response XML for you to download
  8. Process the response XML file on the same window where you generated the request, using the Process Response button
  9. Your FlexSim installation will then be licensed (or for a return, the license will then be available to activate again)
