Error opening Excel file

I started having an error today on my desktop with Flexsim when trying to import Excel tables. My computer says "OLE Automation Error Failed to initialize Excel::_Application". It tells me then that "The Excel file did not open correctly. Do you want to browse for the file?". I browse to the correct file and still have issues. I'm not having this issue when I run the same program/model on my laptop so I think that it must be device specific. Any suggestions on how to fix. I already updated Office 365 and it told me that there is an issue with the "Visual Studio Tools for Office Design -Time Adaptor for Excel" add-in. Disabling didn't help so I tried to reinstall/repair it with "Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2013" which didn't help so I downloaded the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (x64) and tried to fix it but that also didn't help. Thanks for your thoughts.

One reason this message fires is because there is no Excel desktop application on the machine that you're running your FlexSim application. Are you using an online version of Office, or do you have a desktop version installed on the machine?

Thanks for your feedback. I thought that I had the desktop version installed but perhaps I didn't. I uninstalled MS Office 365 on my computer and reinstalled it with the desktop version and everything seems to work fine now. Thanks!

I have nearly same problem here. If I want to import Excel tables with FlexSim 2016 I get the same error "OLE Automation Error" with "Failed to initialize Excel::_Application!". Up to FlexSim 7.7.4 we haven't any problems. I tried it on two computers, both with FlexSim 2016 16.1.2, Office 2007 and Windows 7 64bit with the same result. With 7.7.4 it still works fine on both computers. Any help is highly appreciated ;)

I probably had a different issue. I ended up reinstalling MS Office on my desktop, and it fixed the issue for me. I'm not sure if something got corrupted or...
