How to setup Patient Vitals using "Interim Location"

medical-clinic-no-offices-3-1-17-patient-vitals.fsmThis is similiar to question "Interim Location Processing Time" @Matthew Gillespie. However, I felt it was different enough to start a new question string. I am trying to use my Escort to Exam Room activity to drive the final location of my patient. However, in an alternate model for the client, we are showing an option to have a vitals station shared between 2 pods of rooms. I am trying to use the "interim location" feature. And because this is team driven, I am using a staff member based on the patient destination that is selected based on lowest census. At first I only changed the model to add pathways and select an interim destination. But I was getting an error that I had assigned invalid staff. I am guessing it was reading the interim destination instead of the final destination. So now I have my staff set to be selected based on the patients reserved location which is selected in the escort activity and held when I entered the interim location.

Sorry for the wordy explanation but... My question is How do I add a hold time at the vitals station and then have the patient continue on to the exam room that is being held for them? And I need the staff to stay with them.

I am attaching a snapshot of the model so you can review and check my workflow. I have not applied settings to all patient types yet. Just need to get 1 working.

Here is a sample model that shows how the Interim Location pickoption should work. The activity where you specify the final destinations and interim destinations is the one that will reserve the final destination and then take the patient to the interim destination. Make sure to keep the staff on this activity. In the following activity you know the patient is now at the interim destination, so just assign the staff to be the one used in the last activity and then add a delay time. In the activity after that escort the patient to their reserved location. Make sure to release the staff when you're done with them.

The other thing to remember is that the starting area needs to be connected to both the interim destination's area and the final destination's area. (And, of course, the interim destination needs to be connected to the final destination):

Thanks @Matthew Gillespie. This seems to be like a good workflow. I changed everything in my model and restarted the sim but I am still getting an error for invalid staff.

I think the issue may have something to do with trying to pull staff based on the destination that is being selected? I opened your model back up and assigned each staff member to 2 beds which is similar to my situation and I am getting the error again. Any thoughts? 5473-interimlocation-specific-staff.fsm

That's because the patient's destination at that point is the Scale, which isn't in your list of destinations. The chosen final destination is the patient's reserved location not their destination. So you should use the Based on Patient's Reserved Location pickoption instead of the Based on Patient's Destination.
