How do i import 3d object from 3d warehouse?

Whenever I go through these steps, the original object stays with the new one. How do I prevent this?
Once you've downloaded the 3D object all you need to do to import it, is select the object you want to replace the 3D shape with, open up its properties, and go to the General tab. One of the fields there lets you browse for the 3D shape.
