Rack storage (based on SKU)

test-rack-placement.fsmHi,
I am interested in importing a list of SKU with different locations for storage & retreival in a rack. I saw a lot of posts that deal with the subject, but I am new to flexsim and was unable to duplicate some of the models that I downloaded from this forum. I have two questions. From my very rudimentary understanding, I first need to create a table that will list different skus along with the rack, bay and level for each of them as a global Table. The question, I have is how do I get the source to generate different itemtypes (It looks like this is something that I am unable to do). Please see a model that I created. This does not even run on my end.

You mention that your global table would have a SKU and a rack with bay and level. Does that mean there is only one place that the SKU can be placed? Would you have unlimited capacity in the rack for multiple items of the same SKU? I would have an itemtype for each different SKU. Would that work on your end?

Thanks.

So I have a master SKU list with their respective placement in different racks from our database. I would like to use this to place the SKUS in appropriate racks. So I saw that in your model, you created labels for flow items which also had level and bay and in the place in bay or place in level functionality of the rack you did item.bay or item.level. How do I extend this to include different rack placement by default?

@Sunada C,

Attached is your model with the changes that I've made to it. Take a look at the model and see if something like this would work for your situation.

I added an Excel Import that will import an Excel worksheet into both the Source and the GlobalTable. I wasn't sure which one you would rather use, so I did both. To import from Excel, just press the Import Tables button on the bottom left of the import window. I also added the label "Type" and color the flowitems based on that label. I also added a fourth row to the table just so you could see that it works properly.

If you have any questions or problems, please don't hesitate to ask. The model and Excel file are attached.

Thanks.
