I have a question about OPC connection to PLC in emulation.

Hello,I tried to connect via OPC using flexsim's 18.2.0-32bit and 64bit emulation. But it will give you an error.

exception: getAvailableServers() error. Could not browse OPC Servers. Service may not be installed or could not connect to remote ip.

I tried that https://answers.flexsim.com/questions/51184/reasons-for-no-connection-to-the-opc-servers.html It's a failure.

  • My PLC model is Simens 1508. I use other software connection is successful.

Hi @Qi W

Are you using an OPC server software program to connect the PLC?

Sorry for the delay in answering. I have a couple questions:

  • Are you able to connect to an OPC server that is running on the same computer as FlexSim?
  • You say that using other software you can connect with the server. I assume this is software that is installed on the same computer as FlexSim? Which software are you using to make this connection?
  • If you are able to connect to a local OPC server, but not to a remote one, my initial thought is that you need to adjust your firewall settings. It is possible that other software is able to connect but FlexSim is blocked. The communication protocols may be different.

Hi,@Matt Long .

  1. Yeah,OPC server is running on the same computer as Flexsim.
  2. I use Kepware and TIA portal connect to PLC is successful.
  3. I have tried connecting PLC and flexsim via Ethernet. come to nothing.
  4. I have tried to read directly from kepware and still failed.
  5. My firewall is always open.

I've tried various ways to connect.I wonder if connecting to a PLC requires a download driver or something.

@Qi W,

FlexSim automatically installs the OPC Redistributable, so you shouldn’t have to install anything further.

If other software is able to connect to the OPC server on the local computer, then FlexSim should also be able to. We haven’t seen these issues at all with anyone else.

What version of Windows are you running?

Hi @Matt Long, tries to connect to the local opc server

I used flexsim yesterday and succeeded. But our company's opc server

on the remote server, I tried to connect to it but failed.

Is it the Internet?

Do I need to set up a gateway or port?
