Production Planning

Dear Community

I am not sure on how to trigger a production planning production, so that depending on what the customer orders, different objects are made within the same machines / processes.
Here is an example:

1 CB = CarBatch

27x Car Units are needed to make 1 CB.

These Car Units can be made of different Motor and Tire sizes - depending on what the customer orders.

Here is an example of what the processes look like for the tires:

Now, how can I trigger the production according to the customers wishes?
1 CB can be made of 27x different car units - depending on what the customer wants...

Thanks in advance!

@Dominik K This smells like a school project, so I definitively not going to give you a solution ;-)

Tip: Look at processflow and use lists for your materials

or if you keep working in 3D only look at the combiner object

Hey Steven! Thanks for your answer!

Well, good guess, but it's my bachelor thesis with a similar case, not quite like the one above - it should just be an example of what I want to implement :-)

May you give me some more hints?

Thanks!

@Dominik K This is how I picture your question. Car Batches are created at a given rate. The Batch is built by splitting into 27 car units and having each of the 27 decide what type they are. Each of those 27 could go through a separate process. When the batch is complete, the CB is notified. I didn't take the time to actually fill out everything in this model or give each type a different set of process steps, but that is the easy part.

Wow, the page refreshed after I wrote around 500 words. Amazing. Here we go again;

Thanks for you answer! The visualization really helps!

Now, when the "Create Car Units" starts, how can I implement the following;

A car unit could be one of these packages;

Car Unit Package S:
Tire S
Motor S
Window

Car Unit Package M:
Tire M
Motor M
Window

Car Unit Package L:
Tire L
Motor L
Window

Car Unit Package Mixed:
Tire S
Motor M
Window

So, if a client now orders a car unit package S, then an M, an S, an L etc. I have to take the right size of an item out of a queue, then put it through the process (e.g. car tire profiling) and so on.
E.g:

  1. The client orders Car Unit Package Mixed.
  2. Item Tire S, Motor M and Window are taken out of Queue
  3. Tire S is going through processes (process-time is shorter than usually bc it's an S)
  4. Motor M is going through processes (normal process-time, since it's an M)
  5. Windows is being processed (process-time always the same, since only one size)
  6. Packaging
  7. Ready for delivery

My goal here is to see how the lead-time changes, depending on different delivery-sequences, wishes from the client / depending from the clients order.

It's very difficult to me, to explain this properly but I really hope this makes sense.
I'd urgently need a way to make my model according to production planning / the clients wishes.

Thank you guys for your help!
Dominik

@Dominik K Please read the best practices of this forum. The idea is that we help people with a question they have about working with FlexSim. So the idea is that you build a model and then ask questions about how to do certain things. This forum is not a place where you can ask: "please build my model". Unfortunately your question looks a lot like that and it doesn't appear you have put a lot of effort in your self. If you need support quick and you would like that somebody builds your model or helps you to a large extent, please contact your local FlexSim distributor and aks him or her to support you.

Hey Steve!

Thanks for your answer. I am not looking for someone who makes my model. It just seems, that such a essential function "Production planning" is not as obvious and easily implemented, as I thought. With the example up there, I just wanted to clarify my question...
