Flags are part of the General Tab in the Properties Window of an object. You find the structure of an visible tab in the view tree. There is an explore structure option in View of the right mouse button function. That opens the view tree at the right node of your currently active window. There you look for the option of the switch. Typically there is a reference to the node in model or main tree which would be set to change the flag. @phil.bobo shows in an answer how you can get to the view node and start your search. In this example he explores the quick properties pane. Obviously you need to explore the general tab instead.

Any node can be flagged as protected. It is indicated by a little gray bar in the tree view.

The command switch_protected() can be used to get or set that flag.

In the following image, Processor1 and Queue1>stored are both toggled as protected.
