Want the flypath to update only when the presentation builder tab is open.

The initial value of the flypath updates when you change the viewpoint without closing the presentation builder tab. Even if you switch to another tab and hide the Presentation Builder tab.

I would like the value to change only when the presentation builder tab is active.

As far as I can tell, moving the 3D view only changes the current point. If values in the Presentation Builder are red, then you'll edit that point in the flypath by manipulating the 3D view:

If you move the cursor off of the point, you can freely move the 3D view without editing a point:

You are correct that if the Presentation Builder window is open, and if the cursor is on a point, that you can edit the point by moving the 3D view, even if the window is obscured by another tab. I understand why that would be surprising. I will add this issue to the dev list for review.
