FlexSim in Citrix environment

I have a customer asking me if he can run FlexSim on a Citrix Server. He wants his FlexSim model builder to use that instead of a high performance laptop/desktop.

His description: "We have Citrix servers which are setup for hosting 3D based applications (High performance servers with a lot of memory and discrete graphics cards) in Citrix."

He wants to know:

  1. If it's a viable option for a FlexSim model builder? (will the lag make it unworkable?)
  2. Who else has done it?
  3. If the licensing allows that?

I don't see any problems based on the answers to this post from 2016:

Anybody has anything to add or suggest since it's been 6 years?

Thanks,

FlexSim 22.1.2

Hi @Patrick Cloutier ,

Regarding licensing, yes, FlexSim's Software License Agreement allows the employees of a licensed organization to access their own licenses via a connection to a remote server, as long as the number of concurrent FlexSim users does not exceed the seat-count of the licenses. For this use-case this is best done using a server-based license, rather than standalone.

======

As noted in our minimum system requirements (see operating system), FlexSim isn't designed with a client-server environment in mind and FlexSim Software is not tested in such environments.

That said, I've heard anecdotal reports of companies using FlexSim with Citrix or other thin-client-remoted-to-powerful-server environments, but nothing I really know anything about or have personal experience with.

The main consideration is usually graphics and whether the server supports hardware graphics acceleration that can be streamed over the remote connection.

Hopefully someone who has used FlexSim in this way will chime in to share their own experience in regards to viability, performance, platforms used, or other considerations.
