AutoCAD autobuild features

Hello,

in this question is mentioned that snap points can be used for autobuild purposes.

How are snap points used? - FlexSim Community

First, I am wondering if you have an example of this that you can share. Also I would like to know if we can import more infrmation from a CAD file besides the positions of the lines, like information attached to objects or blocks in autoCAD.

I would also like to know if you FlexSim is planning on making other types or improving communications with other autodesk softwares like revit or factory Design utilities, and if so if you have any timeline on these developments.

Hello @Julio R,

You can read more about importing 3D CAD and snap points in the manual as well.

There is a DWG file that is downloaded with FlexSim called "ER_small". You will find it in the "FlexSim 2024 projects" folder in your documents folder. I loaded this in as a floor plan. I went to the Snap Points tab and loaded in the snap points.

I will find out if any other information is loaded in with the file.

See also How to autobuild conveyor's as per layout with auto-connection between them? for an example of script to auto-build objects based on dwg snap points.

Right now, we use ODA to render DWG lines and load the data about snap points. This data currently only includes information about lines, arcs, circles, etc. Higher level metadata about blocks or objects is not available right now.

It is on the development list to improve the integration between FlexSim and other Autodesk products, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, and Factory Design Utilities.

We do not have an estimate or timeline for when those improvements will be developed.
