Importing 3D solids from Inventor, coordinates and size of solid changes

When I create a solid in Inventor, convert it to step or stl, on importing into Flexsim, the axes change as well as the size. Am I missing something? I've never experienced this with other software before.

@csmcdavid, I have experienced that many times. And my conclusion is, I test coordinate transformation from one tool into another and then I decide where it is most suitable to manipulate 3D data.

Personal I had a similar situation as a competitor in discrete event simulation packages integrated a bought tool for their own portfolio of simulation tools. Their propagated 3D format for data exchange was not supported in their bought tool besides they owned this package already for more then a year. This happened about 16 years ago, while we tested several discrete event simulation tools. I can understand your frustration, but as I know this new alliance is not officially a one year old. And perhaps it is on their agenda already. It will probably take some time to integrate optimize company standard 3D data exchange formats.

regards Jörg

If you export as .obj you should find the axes are correct. Some of the export options (.fbx in 3dsmax for example) allow you to specify if Y is up.
