FlexSim 2017 lmadmin issue (Error 1067)

Frustration everywhere today ... After upgrading to 2017 and rereading the activation on my license server (Win7, no issues with FlexSim 7.7.4), it started to get weird: The server dashboard showed the new licenses but it was not possible get the 2017 installs beyond the Express license mode. All older versions were still able to start into Education license mode immediately. Then, I followed the suggestion to remove the "old" lmadmin completely and do a fresh install of the license server software (downloaded today). But now I'm not even able to start the lmadmin service. A window pops up all the time telling me that some Error 1067 happened and that the service terminated itself unexpectedly. Any ideas? Thx a lot!

Hi @Oliver Rose,

Sorry that you are having trouble upgrading your license server. Hopefully this information will help.

Please make sure that you are using the very latest License Server tools.

On page 10 of the lmadmin installation instructions, several suggestions are given for the case where the lmadmin service wasn't installed or won't start. From your description, where the service fails to start, I suggest trying to run the service using different permissions by using a different account (suggestion #4). Try choosing Local System account and check the box for Allow service to interact with desktop. After making that change, try again to start the service.

Also, as specified at the bottom of page 3, if you are upgrading your server, you will need to uninstall the old anchor service and install the new one. A reboot may be necessary between the uninstall and the new anchor service installation. If you cannot reboot this server, you can remove all the old Flexnet licensing anchor services manually, and then install the latest anchor service through flexsimserveractutil.exe, as specified there at the bottom of page 3 of the lmadmin installation instructions.

Comment back if you have any other information or related questions.

Hi @Ben Wilson,

changing the account to local did the trick for me. No more error messages and the license server behaves as expected. The checkout of 2017 licenses does work without issues now. Thx a lot for your help.

Cheers, Oliver

Hello @Ben Wilson, I have same issue and because my server is old Windows XP, I got an error saying the flexsimserveractutil.exe is not a correct Win32 application and unable to execute. Do you have solution to fix this?

Sorry @steven.chen, we no longer support Windows XP (or Windows Vista).

Once an operating system reaches its end of extended support with Microsoft, FlexSim no longer actively supports that OS. Something in the latest versions of flexsimserveractutil.exe must rely on some feature or library or something that Windows XP does not include.

Consequently, on Windows XP you would need to use an older version of the License Tools. This might allow you to run flexsimserveractutil.exe to return your licenses, however, you won't be able to use that older License Tools to license FlexSim 2017, which requires the latest licensing libraries from Flexera.

I've attached an older version of flexsimserveractutil.exe in case you need to return licenses from your XP server. I have not tested it, but based on its date I think it will work on XP.
