Error when adding pathways to a model

2-pod-options.fsm

Hi.

I have a healthcare ED model that's giving me the following error when I add pathways to it.

"You cannot reserve a room for more than one patient at a time! Check if the 'Reserve Curent Location' box is checked for an activity that has the patient transferring from a location with a Maximum Occupancy > 1. Check Examtable6"

The actual exam table changes each time. All the exam table occupancies are set at one, and there are various activities that require a patient to reserve a location. When I look at the locations in question after I get the error, there will be two patients occupying the same exam table, which shouldn't happen. But again, only when I add paths. Thanks for your help.

It seems the error is connected to running the model at 'Max' speed. When I back it down to anything less than max speed, it completes without error.

I guess I spoke too soon. Still errors out without paths, just not as easily.

We are looking into this. Your model is behaving strangely. @Cliff King

It seems like it might be related to the priority levels. When I set them all back to 150, I can run the model without issue.

Matt, do you realize that preemption occurs whenever a resource request is dispatched to an active resource and the priority value of the request is in a higher "tier" than the priority value of the active task request of the resource? If not, be sure and read the following page in Help > User Manual: Patient-Centered Activities > Key Concepts about Activities > Staff and Resource Priorities. Preempting resources is a tricky thing requiring special care to avoid nonsense behavior and gridlock. Let me know if you were using the higher priority values with the intent to preempt, and I will try to help you get the behavior you need.

Cliff, I think that was the issue. My intent was to have the staff switch from one task to another based on patient acuity. I didn't realize that would also allow a new patient to supersede the reserved location, which is what was happening, leading to the error.

Matt, did you want to take another stab at trying to better manage the staff request priorities in the various activities first, and then send me back the model if/when you run into problems again? Begin by using the fewest number of preemption scenarios as possible. The model I looked at early had a large number of activities with high tier priorities (i.e. likely preemption), which included low importance activities such as departures. Once you have preempted staff away from a lower acuity patient with an initial activity, there is no need to have subsequent activities preempt as well, because you can keep the staff with the higher acuity patient with the simple "keeping" feature of activities.
