Is there a way to snap the measure tool to a single axis so that it only measures a distance along the X or Y axis, for example? I've seen this with other tools by holding down Ctrl or Shift while drawing the line.

Looking at the code, there doesn't appear to be a way to do this currently.
I'll add a case to the dev list with this suggestion.
