Changing protection and selection status in tree

To protect some racks in my model, I used multi-select, and then clicked "Toggle protect object" and "toggle no select" on Edit Selected Objects window.

Now I need to edit them, so I found one in the tree and double clicked on it to bring up its Properties, and unchecked "Protected" and "No select" on the General tab. It didn't work, and when I re-opened the properties window they were checked again.

Thinking that maybe I need to do it directly on the tree, I expanded the rack on the tree but couldn't find the node for either.

How do I allow selection and unprotect them again?

These are flags. You find commands containing the phrase “switch ” like

switch_noselect

You change the flag in the script console.

OK, thanks. I'll try that next time. (As it turns out it was actually easier to just use a backup version and not make the mistake of toggling No select.)

I'm a little surprised that the switches aren't available directly on the tree, but TBH I am fully mystified as to why I can get to the properties window (double click on the object on the tree) but can't successfully change those switches. (It lets me uncheck them but then doesn't do it.)

@Craig DIckson,

I think we can fix this. Make sure your tree window is closed when you change settings in the properties window. Then when you press "Apply" on the properties window, the tree shouldn't interfere with updating those settings. Let me know if you're able to get it to work.

That didn't seem to work. Here's what I did:

I opened the tree, double clicked on the object name to get its properties window, closed the tree, went to General tab of the object properties, unchecked No select and Protect, clicked Apply. Left the Properties window open and went to 3d and was still unable to select the object. Then I clicked the next object arrow (on the bottom left of Properties window), and then the previous object arrow to get back to the original object. Both No select and Protect boxes were now checked again.
