Why does the first item on the processor look like one even with three batches?

Why does the default setting make the number of items look like one?
It is a simulation without a physical engine. The items are virtual shapes. There occurs no collision. What would you expect to happen, items are stacked, put into a line, get another color? You get statistical data of current content, that is sufficient to interpret results of a simulation.The items get identical locations.
