Server requirements

One client is asking the following questions:

  1. Which Server operating system does it require to have?
  2. What is the server's computing resources (CPU, RAM, HDD) requirement?

  3. Can it be a virtual Windows server on Vmware?
  4. Can we use our existing license servers which we are using for other applications like E3?

  5. Tomorrow, when moving to AWS cloud, can it be an EC2 instance running Windows Server?

For some basics, please check out the introductory sections of our license server installation instructions.

Here are short answers to your questions:

  • A. Any 64-bit x64 Windows operating system.
  • B. If a server system meets the requirements of the chosen Windows OS, it is good enough to run a license manager. Hosting licenses is NOT a demanding workload.
  • D. Yes.
  • E. Most likely.
  • G. Yes, you can host a license server for FlexSim on EC2.

=====

Here is some more detailed information and links to resources.

FlexSim licenses are hosted using a license manager (lmtools or lmadmin) provided by FlexNet. For a more in-depth treatment of requirements and capabilities, check out FlexNet's documentation:

Important notes:

  • FlexSim's licensing tools for activating a license on your license server are 64-bit Windows applications. As such, please choose for your license server operating system one of those listed in the Release Notes under 64-bit Windows.
  • Requirements for lmtools are not listed in the release notes, but it is a more basic Windows application versus the Java-based web-delivered-interface lmadmin. Lmtools will work on all the same operating systems and hardware as lmadmin. Lmtools is the recommended license manager used in our default license server installation instructions.
