Activating license catch 22

I recently received an assignment on this software. I'm using a server-based license for version 21.2 from the research group I'm working with. However, this license hasn't been shared to my account itself, so I'm listed as a guest and can only access the newest version. But I need the older version to activate my license. Is there a way around this other than having someone share the license with my account?

I'm new to this, so please go easy if this question seems silly!

(The catch 22 referred to in the title is that I need an older version to activate my license, but I need to activate my license to download an older version)

Hi @Kevin_i D ,

The license-owning FlexSim Account has access to all our older installers. If your organization is not current on maintenance, or if they're not upgrading their license server regularly so that it works with the latest versions, or if you are involved in a project that is locked to a particular version of FlexSim, or if for any other reason you need to access a version of the software other than our latest feature release or long term support release, then ideally your organization is aware of these circumstances and is keeping an archive of various needed versions internally.

Please contact your license owner, or someone else with whom the owner has shared the licenses. They will be able to download any version in order to get the installer directly to you or to set up some kind of internal repository of different installer versions.

If for some reason this is not something that you can handle internally, you can also contact your local distributor by phone or email to request direct assistance.

Ben,

Thank you for your response. Am I to understand that having them share the license to my account won't work, then? My administrator attempted to do so, and their account does show up under the share tab, but not my licenses (see screenshots).

I forwarded your answer to them, and they requested steps on what to do next. Are you able to provide specific instructions for them to get either their license or the older version to me?

I appreciate your help,

Kevin Davidson

Unfortunately your account does not auto-update itself while you're logged in. If you were logged in to your account when they shared the license with you, you will need to manually update your account session. You can do this in one of two ways:

  1. log out of your account, then log back in OR
  2. hover over the User icon in the upper right of the top navigation bar, then choose "reload account" from the flyout menu

After reloading your account, visit your licenses page. If the person who shared licenses with you was the license owner, their licenses will show in your license view.

If the person that shared with you was not the owner, but rather just another person the licenses are shared with, you will not see the licenses in your account. Only the license owner account can share the licenses.

Specific instructions for downloading older versions of the software, to be completed by you if sharing is successful, or by someone the licenses are already successfully shared with, or by the license owner (these steps repeat some of the above for completeness' sake):

  1. If you're not already logged in, log in to your FlexSim account at https://account.flexsim.com
  2. If you were already logged in and you think some licensing change may have occurred since your last login, hover over the "User" link in the upper right corner navigation bar, then choose Reload Account. This will update your license codes and show their latest status.
  3. Visit the licenses page. Make sure you see your licenses. This also loads your licenses into your session so that the downloads page will be enabled to show older versions.
  4. Visit the downloads page by clicking the "Downloads" link in the upper right corner navigation bar.
  5. Click the brown "more versions" button.
  6. Scroll down to browse the older installers. You'll find the latest bugfix for all of our older feature releases.
  7. Download all the different installers you think others in your organization might need. Share them to a network drive or other internal repository so that your users will have a more convenient way to access the installers if they only have a guest account.
