Tracking the time a client is using a License Server seat

Hello, do you if we can gather some usage statistics or for how long a certain user keeps using a FlexSim seat from the server network?

Thanks!

Hi @Jorge Toucet,

As you know, we use a third-party licensing system called FlexNet that is produced by a company called Flexera. The documentation for administering a FlexNet license server is found in the License Administration Guide.

For server-based licenses, the vendor daemon log shows stats for when a computer checks out and returns features, which happens when FlexSim is opened and closed, respectively.

See how to access vendor daemon logs for lmadmin or lmtools from the License Server Installation Instructions, section Server configuration or license issues, point Seats all in use.

If you want additional reports beyond what is available from the raw vendor daemon logs, Flexera sells a management tool that can track concurrent license usage, but we’ve never used it here:

http://www.flexerasoftware.com/enterprise/products/software-license-management/flexnet-manager-engineering-apps/

FlexSim doesn't monitor its own usage. It simply asks the third-party licensing system whether a license is available and enables features accordingly.

For anyone interested in license server log files, I've created a comprehensive article that includes just about everything we know about the license server log files, and license utilization analysis:
