I have installed flexsim latest version. but for some reason flexsim does not open any models

When I restart the computer it opens only once then when I try to open models. it does not work

Is it because of dual GTX ?

@Raashid Mohammed, what about building a brand new model, saving it, and opening it? Does that work?

If so, could the problem actually be with the model you're trying to open?

Here is information regarding common graphics problems and solutions:

https://answers.flexsim.com/content/kbentry/11/graphics-compatibility-common-problems-and-solutio.html

Here are suggestions for startup or installation problems:

https://answers.flexsim.com/articles/20977/flexsim-installation-or-startup-error.html

There is a high likelihood that one of the suggestions in either of those posts will work to clean up your FlexSim installation and get things working smoothly.

If you try everything in both those posts, but are still experiencing troubles, let us know. In that case, more system info could be useful, such as a screenshot of the start page info you see in FlexSim's upper right corner when starting FlexSim.

@Raashid Mohammed, did you try any of the suggestions mentioned, such as:

  • updating graphics drivers to the latest
  • installing all Windows updates
  • deleting your prefs.t file
  • (and several others, this was not an exhaustive relisting of the suggestions from the linked posts)

While you work through the suggestions in the linked posts, I'll ask around here and see if anyone else has any ideas based on your description (opens once per restart) and system info.

@Raashid Mohammed,

After restarting, you can open FlexSim once. I presume you use the X button in the upper right to close FlexSim?

After closing, please check the Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) - is there still a FlexSim process running? Could be under Apps or Background processes.

Yes I used upper right button to close flexsim then I cant open it again

after closing and re opening again I checked task manager

the flexsim 2017 is running in the background process

I installed flexsim 2016 and it works !

I also deleted folders and re installed the flexsim 2017 multiple times and also use windows trouble shooting process . it did not work

@Raashid Mohammed,

Since FlexSim 2017 is still running as a background process, it most likely is not closing correctly, or is freezing during the close.

As FlexSim closes, it does a number of things, including:

  • writing your latest settings to your prefs.t file, including recent files and any settings that were changed during the session
  • if applicable, communicates with a license server to let it know that a seat is becoming available

If you kill the background process, does it then allow you to open FlexSim again without rebooting?

No it does not

When I kill the background process and open flexsim it still activates in background instead of opening

I think may be it is something to do with dual GTX

@Raashid Mohammed, I doubt it is related to the dual GTX, but I'd like @phil.bobo, our resident graphics guru, to weigh in before we rule it out completely. Unfortunately he won't be back until next week.

Maybe some of our other developers have some ideas why you can start FlexSim once, but then upon closing, FlexSim stays open as a Background Process and won't open again until after a reboot, even if you kill the background process.

If using a Generic (No GPU Acceleration) OpenGL Context does not fix your issue, then the problem is not related to your graphics cards. When you start FlexSim using a Generic OpenGL Context (previously known as Compatibility Mode), then FlexSim never even attempts to communicate with your graphics cards.

It sounds like FlexSim is not closing properly, which is then corrupting your prefs.t file, which is then causing FlexSim to crash when you open it the next time.

My guess is that it is related to either permissions or Unicode characters in a path somewhere. In 17.1, we updated to use UTF-8 and Unicode versions of the Windows API commands. This may have caused an issue somewhere related to non-ASCII characters in a path; perhaps in your Windows User name or the path to FlexSim?

Are you having this same problem with both 17.0 and 17.1?

@phil.bobo @Ben Wilson

Yes It does not work for 17.0 and 17.1

I can run 16 with no issues

@jordan.johnson was training us last week. he also took some notes. Mentioned that he will share with you and the team

Thanks

Hi @Raashid Mohammed,

@phil.bobo, @jordan.johnson, and I have discussed what we know about your problem, and possible explanations. We still don't think this can be graphics related. After a reboot, if you are able to open FlexSim and use it normally once, with no problems with graphics, then graphics is a non-issue.

It seems that FlexSim is getting stuck as it closes, which is when it is trying to write a prefs.t file, among other things.

Even if your account has administrator privileges, please try right-clicking and choosing to Run as Administrator. Let FlexSim open. After FlexSim is fully loaded, close it. Is there still a hidden FlexSim process running on your computer? Is there a prefs.t file under your AppData?

@Raashid Mohammed,

After the above, FlexSim still won't start without a reboot? Given your answers, it appears (albeit with limited data) that FlexSim closed properly...

@Raashid Mohammed, When you right click and select Run as Administrator, use FlexSim, then close it, you have reported that the background process is gone and a prefs.t file exists.

If you delete the prefs.t file, will FlexSim open without a reboot?

If it does not open, is it now listed as a process in task manager? Is it using any RAM/CPU?

Rasshid

Why not do a clean installation by deleting the Flexsim installation folder? I am having the same spec as yours and I don't run into any problem.

Am I right to say that there is no response when you click New or recent file?

David
